How to waterproof a shower floor, shower pan, and curb?
If you’ve screwed up your shower floor waterproofing and didn’t install the rubber linear before installing the cement board as I did, don’t worry, I have a solution for you.
If you’ve done the same you’ll have noticed that installing the membrane on top of the drywall wouldn’t work because the tile would be uneven. So, I asked my brother, who is a contractor and he suggested the paint-on solution.
Before you start with this process, you’ll have to get these tools, to begin with.
Tools you’ll need:
Step 1: Paint the floor with a waterproofing solution
Thoroughly paint the floor with a waterproofing solution.
I used the Aqua defense from Mapei.
If you want to waterproof your shower wall as well, you can see how I did it in this video “How to waterproof a shower.”
Step 2: Place the Laticrete Waterproofing Membrane Fabric on the floor corners
Cover the corners with the Laticrete Waterproofing Membrane Fabric. Carefully place it so that it doesn’t wrinkle too much.
Step 3: Paint the waterproofing over the membrane placed on the floor corners
Paint the waterproofing over the membrane as you go from one corner to the next. Let it dry for about 1 hour and then hit it again with another coat. Then let it dry for at least 24 hours before installing tile over it.
