Before you start the procedure, make sure you get these tools.
Tools you’ll need
Step 1: Close the Door
Make sure you closed the door at the time of installation and adjusting of the self closing door hinge.
Step 2: Use the Allen Key
Typically an Allen Key is provided with a purchase of a new self closing door hinge but if not you can get a cheap set here. Insert the Allen key in the hole at the top of the hinge. Now, make sure to rotate the Allen key according to the door’s opening direction.
In case your door opens from right to left, rotate the Allen key clockwise position.
If your door opens left to right, rotate the Allen key clockwise.
Step 3: Apply Tension
While the Allen key is inserted, hold it in one hand and put the pin inside one of the holes on the hinge with your other hand.
Make calculated turns with the pin that you have inserted in the hole. Keep in mind how many holes you turn since the instructions say for 90-degree open doors you can’t go past 4 holes.
Applying excess tension can damage your hinge.
To achieve the required tension for the hinge, make turns with the Allen key at the top while the pin is inside the hole. The rotation of the Allen key should be clockwise if your door opens from right to left and vice versa.
Step 4: Fix the pin to Hold Tension
Remove the tension pin that you were using to turn the hole while the Allen key is inserted in the hinge from the top to hold the tension. Use one of the provided pins to fix the hinge by inserting them in one of the holes.
Step 5: Test the Door hinge
Remove the Allen key and open the door for testing. The movement of the door will tell you if one hinge is enough for your door to shut itself automatically.
If it’s not you’ll have to add another hinge.
