How to replace Audi Q7 2007 Headlight Bulb
Just like everything else on an Audi Q7, it’s not straightforward to do simple repairs such as battery replacement or in this case a simple headlight bulb replacement. For some reason, Audi likes to complicate things. Therefore, I’ll show you how to replace Audi Q7 highlight bulb replacement on my 2007 Audi.
Difficulty Level: Pretty Easy – but can be tricky
Time: About 5-10 mins
Cost: $12 – $35 depending on the type of bulb you buy
Tools You’ll Need
Audi Q7 Replacement Bulb Options
Step 1: Remove the front cover plate
Take a flat screw driver and remove the plastic clips along the plastic cover. And remove the cover.
Step 2: Remove the Audi Q7 headlight
There is a plastic piece that you have to pull up first. See the picture below.
Next, push in the corner as shown and pull the Audi Q7 headlight towards you. At this point the headlight will not fully be removed because there is still the wire harness attached to it.
Again use a flat head screw driver and release the high beam headlight connector. Now continue to pull on the entire Audi Q7 headlight and you should be able to remove it.
Step 3: Remove the Audi Q7 Headlight Bulb
Place the headlight on a flat even surface. There is plastic back cover that you will need to remove first. Slide the cover to the left as indicated by the yellow arrow in the picture below.
Next you will need to remove the connector by simply pulling on it. The headlight bulb is secured by locking tabs. You should be able to just pull the light bulb out without having any issues. However, you may want to use a small flat head screwdriver to help loosen the tabs in order to get the bulb out.
Step 4: Install new Audi Q7 Headlight Bulb
I recommend buying replacement bulbs in a 2-pack from amazon and keeping one spare in your glove box or someplace safe in your garage. It is typically cheaper to by two and chance are your other headlight may go out soon. Take the new Audi Q7 headlight bulb carefully with touching the glass part of the bulb. You don’t want to leave any grease from your fingers because that may cause the bulb to fail. You may also consider getting inexpensive LEDs while your doing this anyway. Here are some good ones that you can find. Install the new light bulb in the same direction with the tab pointed up or down depending on how your headlight was placed. See image below.
Step 5: Install Back the Audi Q7 Headlight
Take the Audi Q7 Headlight and install it back into the vehicle. Make sure that the slot (or rail looking thing) on the Headlight aligns exactly to what is on the car. See picture below. This will make sliding the headlight easier. However, don’t slide all the way until you read the rest of the instructions.
Next, reconnect the main headlight connector. Then you can slide the headlight all the way back. Then make sure you press down on the plastic pin clip as shown below. This locks the headlight in place and prevents it from moving especially when you break.
Step 6: Test and Install Cover
Before installing the cover back on, turn on the ignition and check that the Audi Q7 Headlight Bulb is working and that you don’t have other problems with the headlight.
Once you made sure everything is operational. Install the front plastic cover back. Make sure you reinsert all the plastic clips that you took out in step 1.
Conclusion
That’s it. You did it. It’s Fairly simple replacement. A bit odd that you have to take out entire headlight to just replace the battery but that seems to be normal for Audi Q7, even the battery is in a weird location.
Here is a video you can watch of the entire replacement.
