How to open the top on a 2019 Camaro Convertible
2019 Chevy Camaro is a fun drive but it’s more fun if it is a convertible. Butt first you must figure out how to open the top on a Camaro. We recently went to Hawaii with my wife on vacation and I had troubles opening the 2019 Camaro top so I decided to write this article in case it may others as well.
Step 1: Start Your Engine
First and for most push the start button to start your engine. The key has to be inside the car for you to do this.
Step 2: Failed Attempt to Open the 2019 Camaro Top
In the top in the middle section there you will find a toggle switch. Press the arrow that is pointing towards you in order to start the process. Typically this should open the Camaro Top. However, if it doesn’t then follow the next steps.
Step 3: Extend Cargo Shade to Operate Top Warning
If the top doesn’t open you should see the following error: Action Required Extend Cargo Shade to Operate Top. This means you need to pickup the Cargo shade in the trunk.
Step 4: Open the Chevy Camaro trunk
There are two ways to open the trunk on a 2019 Chevy Camaro. 1st way is to press a button that is located inside on the driver door. See the image below to see what it looks like.
The second way to open trunk on a Chevy Camaro is to use a Chevy Camaro smart key. It’s the fifth button from the top.
Step 6: Put up the Extend Cargo Shade
Inside the trunk you will find a mat looking thing which is called Cargo Shade. If you find it flat inside the trunk as shown in the picture then this is why you are getting the warning Action Required Extend Cargo Shade to Operate the Top.
There are two knobs located on top of the trunk. Pick up the Cargo Shade and place the plastic ring into the pins. They should click. You need to do this on both sides of the Cargo Shade.

Step 7: Attempt to open the 2019 Camaro Top
After the Cargo Shade is in place, close the trunk and go try to open the top. The top should begin to open. First the windows will go down and then the top will open. Once it’s fully open, you will get a notification in the dashboard that states “Information: Folding Top Motion Complete”.
Conclusion
I’m not sure if these instructions apply to other Chevy Camaro such as 2018, 2017, or 2016 but if it does I hope you found it helpful. It’s a very quick fix but could be confusing if you don’t know about it.
